Bright colours, atmospheric light and powerful compositions characterise Miriam Montenegro's paintings.
Like the French Impressionists, the painter likes to capture the light of the moment, go outside with her working materials, paint in front of the subject and thus present interpretations of felt moments.

In her paintings, Miriam Montenegro reduces the motif to the essential, the rest dissolves into colour and form. This creates an exciting relationship between the representational and the abstract. Her works are characterised by clear, generous forms and simple but effective drawing. The arrangements are dynamic and balanced and place the emphasis on vital, exciting colour combinations.
In her paintings, the paint is applied in layers, often creating cubic nuances of light and shadow and subtle translucent effects; a picture transforms again and again until the result stands. The subjects of the painting are varied and usually play a subordinate role. Often the colour itself is the subject. Besides working on her often large-scale expressionist cityscapes in oil, the artist likes to experiment with acrylic, ink, markers, stencils and other media such as foils to create exciting visual worlds.
Miriam Montenegro's style is equally influenced by head and feeling.
